Course Overview
Did the Ḥanafīs view the Sunnah in the same manner as the muḥaddithūn? Why do we notice the ḥanafīs have a different approach towards the Sunnah and what is the rational basis for this difference in approach? Whilst the muḥaddithūn seem to look at both the chain of narration and the text of a narration, their greater focus is on the chain of narration. This seems to be the complete opposite of how the ḥanafīs assess narrations, they first seem to look at the text and then the chain of narration. In this course, through 9 detailed lessons, we cover the chapter of the Sunnah from Al-Manār of Ḥāfiẓ al-Dīn al-Nasafī raḥimahullah (d.710 AH). We look at the development of the approach of the ḥanafīs towards the Sunnah through the lens of the classical writers such as Al-Sarakhsī raḥimahullah (d.483 AH) and Al-Bazdawī raḥimahullah (d.482 AH), as well as contemporary writers such as Shaykh Sohail Ḥanīf and Dr. Anas Sarmīnī. This course is a must for any serious student of Fiqh and Ḥadīth.
