An Introduction to Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Sunan al-Nasā’ī, Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī and Sunan Ibn Mājah

Course Overview

While the famous Ṣaḥīḥ books are given lengthy introductions, the books that students lack much information about are the Sunan books. In this tremendously detailed course, we will look at Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Sunan al-Nasā’ī, Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī and Sunan Ibn Mājah. The biographies of the authors will be looked at in detail, as well as their methodology in their books as well as the methodology of the authors of all of the six famous books of ḥadīth. We will also look at the various prints of these books and how a student can benefit from the most beneficial print.

The teachers alhamdullilah are excellent in explaining the histories and various standards employed by different muhaddithin with regards to riwayaat etc. In particular I found the session on Sama’a the most interesting and insightful, and added to my love and appreciation for the depth of the science of hadith as a whole
